One of the closest sport climbing destinations to the Twin Cities, Barn Bluff offers climbers a wide variety of moderate to advanced routes with nearly 140 options to choose from. A perfect place to make the transition from leading indoors to sport climbing outside, Barn Bluff can prepare you for more adventurous, future excursions to climbing destinations like the Red River Gorge in Kentucky or Spearfish Canyon in South Dakota. Thirty-three routes. Three waterfalls. The amphitheater we all know simply as Willow is a concentration of difficult, overhanging sport climbs ranging from 5.10d to 5.14b. Sure, there’s a 5.9+ to warm up on, but climbers come to this crag for the more challenging lines such as Sudden Shock (5.11d), Natural Selection (5.12c), and Hurtful Pleasure (5.13a). The setting at Willow is picturesque; the climbing is a pump-fest. Where do I sign up?

Bouldering opportunities abound at Interstate State Park as well, with problems ranging from super simple and fun (VB warm-ups) to a series of demanding V10–V12 boulders.

The roped lines and bouldering area is separated by the Kettle River that cuts along this old quarry neighboring Banning State Park. While it is known for its ice climbing, Robinson Park has some 30-odd routes on its various walls and about 20 acres of challenging boulder problems to test your mettle on.
