Rock Lessons

Vertical Endeavors Guided Adventures (VEGA) offers year-round outdoor rock climbing. Our climbing lessons and guided trips are great for beginners and experienced climbers alike. Venture to Midwest hot spots such as Taylors Falls, North shore, and Devil’s Lake.

All programs are led by VEGA guides who are required to have a solid base of personal experience and have completed VEGA guide courses. VEGA is dedicated to providing you with the best experience possible. A signed VEGA Liability Waiver is required for all participants, climbers and spectators.

Top Rope Anchoring Skills

$175 per climber

Perfect for those who started indoors and are wanting to get outside, this course is designed to teach you the fundamentals of anchor building using bolts, natural features and traditional protection. Starting with a thorough introduction to traditional protective equipment and its various applications, this lesson is designed to provide a foundation of skills to help you learn the intricacies of constructing solid top rope anchor systems. Opportunities to climb during the lesson will be determined at our guides’ discretion. Location options include Interstate State Park (Taylors Falls, MN), Ely’s Peak (Duluth, MN), and Devil’s Lake State Park (Baraboo, WI).

Advanced Anchoring Skills

$175 per climber

This lesson is structured less like a formal lesson and more as a get-together to set up anchors with an opportunity to be critiqued by other anchor builders and a VEGA instructor. This course is perfect for people that wished they had a little more time to practice setting up top rope anchors and learning the tricks to be more efficient in doing so. This course is taught at Interstate State Park (Taylors Falls, MN).

Top Rope Site Management

$500 per climber

The Top Rope Site Management and Instructor Training course emphasizes the technical and educational skills necessary to safely and professionally instruct rock climbing and climbing related activities in a group setting. Any organization or individual who teaches top rope climbing or uses climbing as a medium for personal change or team building should consider this course a tool for improved risk management and consider enrolling its climbing staff. For experienced climbers, this course is the important first step in the guide education process and establishes a foundation of skills, methods and decision making that will lead to becoming model climbing instructors.

Intro to Trad Lead

$175 per climber

This class will benefit beginning and experienced trad leaders looking to learn or improve their skills. We will cover gear selection and placement, direction of pull, extending gear placements and basic top-managed belay to make the most out of your trips to single pitch trad lines. This class requires previous experience building anchors with gear and sport leading. The class will be conducted with a top rope back up and students will mock lead with their guide coaching and evaluating gear placement and strategy. This class it taught at Interstate State Park (Taylors Falls, MN) and Ely’s Peak (Duluth, MN).

Outdoor Sport Lead

$100 per climber

This lesson is great for introducing experienced gym climbers to leading outdoors as well as for outdoor climbers who want some extra coaching. We will teach rope management, hardware evaluation, rappelling, proper falling technique and outdoor ethics. This class requires experience in lead belaying and some experience in lead climbing. This class is taught at Robinson Park (Sandstone, MN) and Silver Creek Cliffs (Duluth, MN).

Tettegouche Experience

$225 Full Weekend / $175 Saturday only

Come discover the thrill of climbing over Lake Superior with our Tettegouche Experience. This course will cover different top-managed anchor setups, self rescue techniques and other skills that are invaluable for climbing at Tettegouche State Park. The Tettegouche Experience is an excellent way to be introduced to the most spectacular climbing area in the Midwest. The first day is spent at Shovel Point. The second day will be held across the bay at Palisade Head applying the skills you learned the day before on a bigger and bolder cliff.

We recommend registering for both days to get the most out of your Tettegouche Experience! Sign up for both days for only $225/climber!

Saturdays at Shovel Point
8:00 AM–12:00 PM – Learn top-managed belay skills, 3:1 haul system and belayed rappel.
12:00–4:00 PM – Climb, practice anchors and top-managed belay skills.

Sundays at Palisade Head
8:00 AM–12:00 PM – Guided climbing and more practice with anchors. Available to participants in the Saturday lesson at Shovel Point.

Outdoor Merit Badge Lesson

$90 per climber

A five-hour class in which Scouts can meet all of the requirements for the BSA Climbing Merit Badge. Badge requirements include belaying, rappelling, knot tying, rope management and other general safety requirements. We recommend that scouts be at least 12 years old and have completed the First Aid Merit Badge. This class is open to both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, however the requirements met are only that of the BSA Climbing Merit Badge.

Private Lessons

Are you interested in learning a specific climbing skill in the outdoors? We are ready to teach you how to crack climb at Interstate State Park and improve your top-managed belay technique on the daring cliffs of Palisade Head or Shovel Point in Tettegouche State Park.
