Basic Top Rope Skills

This beginner lesson is designed as an introduction to the exciting sport of rock climbing. The lesson covers knot tying, belaying, rope management skills, the use of technical equipment and climbing commands. Emphasis is placed on the skills needed to climb and belay in a controlled environment.

Ages 14+, this lesson is not an introduction to climbing technique

Sport Lead

$45 / $30 Members

Learn to climb on the sharp end. If your only experiences include top rope climbing and bouldering, but you’re ready for what’s next, this is the course for you. This lesson will introduce the climber to leading sport routes. Topics include the art of controlled and efficient lead belaying, how to clip the rope into protection as you ascend, lead climbing techniques, the art of falling and how to catch a fall.

Prerequisites
Ages 16+, flash level 5.9, qualified to top rope belay at Vertical Endeavors.

Private Lesson

$50

Private lessons will provide the direction, structure and content to refine your climbing skills. Customized lesson topics range from training and stretching to advanced movement techniques. Improve your climbing skills by reserving time for a private lesson. Rentals included. Open to all ages. Schedule in advance.

Our indoor clinics offer instruction on more specialized subjects including Movement & Technique, Top Rope Anchors, Intro to Trad Lead, Sport Lead Transition, Crack Climbing, Escape the Belay, Rappelling and Multi-Pitch Transition. These can also be scheduled as a Private Lesson. All Ages. Ask a staff member about the next Clinic Intensive Weekend!


Climbing Merit Badge for Scouts

$40/Scout

A five-hour class in which Scouts can meet all of the requirements for the BSA Climbing Merit Badge. Badge requirements include belaying, rappelling, knot tying, rope management and other general safety requirements. We recommend that scouts be at least 12 years old and have completed the First Aid Merit Badge. This class is open to both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, however the requirements met are only that of the BSA Climbing Merit Badge.

Each gym runs lessons on a different day, so check a different gym if you aren’t finding a date that works for you.
